What are the SproutCraft Sessions?
SproutCraft Sessions is a series of small-group art and nature workshops held in our home garden in the Historic Cathedral Neighborhood of Sioux Falls, designed for kids who love to create, explore, and ask questions about the world around them. We blend hands-on art projects with gentle, age-appropriate learning about where our food comes from and what’s happening under the leaves and below the soil. Kids won’t just see a garden – they’ll get to know it.
In our first session, each student designs and decorates their own Outdoor Journal, a special notebook they’ll use like a young naturalist to record what they see, smell, touch, and discover in the garden. Future sessions build on this with projects like planting, painting, and crafting with nature-inspired materials. SproutCraft Sessions are geared toward roughly ages 9–12, last about 90–120 minutes, and always include a simple, healthy snack to refuel curious minds and busy hands.

Joe & Nick Jamison
The Prairie Bears is the creative home Joe and Nick Jamison have built together, an umbrella for everything they love most: pets, good food, art, home and community. Under that cozy bear paw you will find homemade jams and soups, pet sitting and dog walks, original artwork and prints, and now SproutCraft Sessions, their latest way of sharing joy with their neighbors.
SproutCraft grew out of their shared belief that young people should feel rooted in the Earth and free in their creativity. Art and nature are inextricably linked and both are part of what it means to be human. Through SproutCraft, The Prairie Bears invite kids to get their hands in the soil, look closely at the living world, and express what they see and feel through art.
